INTEGRATED CIRCUITS 74F157*, 74F157A, 74F158*, 74F158A Data selectors/multiplexers * Discontinued part. Please see the Discontinued Product List in Section 1, page 21. Product specification IC15 Data Handbook 1996 Mar 12 Philips Semiconductors Philips Semiconductors Product specification Data selectors/multiplexers 74F157A: 74F158A: DESCRIPTION The 74F157A is a high speed Quad 2-Input Multiplexer which selects 4 bits of data from one of two sources under the control of a common Select input (S). The Enable input (E) is active when Low. When E is High, all of the outputs (Yn) are forced Low regardless of all other input conditions. Moving data from two registers to a common output bus is a common use of the 74F157A. The state of the Select input determines the particular register from which the data comes. The device is the logic implementation of a 4-pole, 2-position switch where the position of the switch is determined by the logic levels supplied to the Select input. The 74F158A is similar, but has inverting outputs (Yn). 74F157A, 74F158A Quad 2-input data selector/multiplexer, non-inverting Quad 2-input data selector/multiplexer, inverting * Industrial temperature range (-10C to +85C) available for 74F157A TYPICAL PROPAGATION DELAY 4.6ns 4.6ns 3.7ns 3.7ns TYPICAL SUPPLY CURRENT (TOTAL) 15mA 15mA 10mA 10mA TYPE 74F157 74F157A 74F158 74F158A ORDERING INFORMATION ORDER CODE DESCRIPTION 16-pin plastic DIP 16-pin plastic SO COMMERCIAL RANGE VCC = 5V 10%, Tamb = 0C to +70C N74F157AN, N174F158AN N74F157AD, N74F158AD INDUSTRIAL RANGE VCC = 5V 10%, Tamb = -40C to +85C I74F157AN I74F157AD PKG. For conditions shown as MIN or MAX, use the appropriate value specified under recommended operating conditions for the applicable type. 2. All typical values are at VCC = 5V, Tamb = 25C. 3. Not more than one output should be shorted at a time. For testing IOS, the use of high-speed test apparatus and/or sample-and-hold techniques are preferable in order to minimize internal heating and more accurately reflect operational values. Otherwise, prolonged shorting of a High output may raise the chip temperature well above normal and thereby cause invalid readings in other parameter tests. In any sequence of parameter tests, IOS tests should be performed last. 4. ICC is measured with 4.5V applied to all inputs and all outputs open. 1996 Mar 12 4 Philips Semiconductors Product specification Data selectors/multiplexers 74F157A, 74F158A AC ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR 74F157A AND 74F158A LIMITS TEST CONDITION VCC = +5.0V Tamb = +25C CL = 50pF RL = 500 MIN tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL tPLH tPHL Propagation delay I0n, I1n to Yn Propagation delay E to Yn Propagation delay S to Yn Propagation delay I0n, I1n to Yn Propagation delay E to Yn Propagation delay S to Yn 74F158A 74F157A Waveform 1 Waveform 3 Waveform 1 Waveform 2 Waveform 4 Waveform 2 3.5 2.5 6.0 4.0 5.5 4.5 3.0 1.5 4.5 5.0 4.5 4.0 TYP 4.5 3.5 7.5 5.0 7.5 6.0 4.0 2.5 5.5 6.0 6.5 5.5 MAX 6.5 5.0 9.0 6.5 10.0 7.5 6.0 4.0 7.0 7.5 8.5 7.5 VCC = +5.0V 10% Tamb = 0C to +70C CL = 50pF RL = 500 MIN 3.0 1.5 5.5 4.0 5.0 4.0 2.5 1.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 3.5 MAX 7.0 6.0 10.5 7.0 11.0 8.5 7.0 4.5 7.5 8.0 9.5 8.0 VCC = +5.0V 10% Tamb = -40C to +85C CL = 50pF RL = 500 MIN 3.0 1.5 5.5 4.0 5.0 4.0 -- -- -- MAX 7.5 6.5 11.0 7.5 11.5 9.0 -- -- -- ns ns ns ns ns ns SYMBOL PARAMETER UNIT AC WAVEFORMS For all waveforms, VM = 1.5V I0n, I1n, S VM tPHL I0n, I1n, S VM tPLH VM tPLH VM tPHL Yn VM VM Yn VM VM SF00221 SF00222 Waveform 1.
